Your dome time is fixed: the Opera makes the slot mandatory and named, checks ID at the climb and does not change a slot once issued, so bring a passport or ID card.
- The climb is 463 steps with no lift. The Opera strongly discourages it for people with heart conditions, vertigo or claustrophobia and for pregnant women, and under-18s must be with an adult; the listing also rules out people with mobility impairments or respiratory issues, wheelchair users and people over 70. Bags and backpacks are not allowed, and ticket holders must leave luggage at the Opera's free storage, Piazza Duomo 38/r.
- The dome closes from 16 to 20 November 2026 and the bell tower from 9 to 13 November; the Duomo Museum closes on the first Tuesday of each month, and the Baptistery's vault mosaics are hidden by restoration. The Cathedral is open to visitors Monday to Saturday, 10:15 am to 3:45 pm, with shoulders and knees covered. Cancellation, as listed: “Cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund”.
